Born: Wartrace, Tennessee
After playing with the Tennessee State Collegians, joined Lionel Hampton in 1950 as the featured Trombonist with Hamp's Orchestra.
Also played and recorded with Gerry Mulligan, Quincy Jones, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Gerald Wilson, and many other giants in the jazz world.
