TIGERS News: TSU Breaks New Ground

Posted By: How May I Help You NC on February 11, 2012

How Hi Tech Can You Go? Ask that question at Texas Southern University and you’ll be proud you did. Texas Southern University will break ground on a new Science and Technology building that will boast such state-of-the-art labs like, a full-motion flight lab, a vehicle emission testing lab , an air traffic control lab, a high performance computing center, and a Mini-TranStar driving simulation lab.

There’s more. The facility will have the new Tier 1 National University Transportation Center on Green ITS, and a Full-Motion Flight Simulation Lab, and construction, civil engineering, electronics and computer science labs.

And if that’s not enough to excite you, TSU’s new Science and Technology facility will even have space for the Center for Transportation Training and Research, the Department of Homeland Security National Transportation Center of Excellence for Petro-chemical transportation (NTCOE-P), and the new National Science Foundation Center for Research on Complex Networks (CRCN).

States a proud Dean of the College of Science and Technology, Dr. Lei Yu, “The completion of this facility will make our programs truly competitive. This building is the latest effort by TSU to enhance Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education and make the college a most attractive place for study and research.”

TSU’s Department of Aviation Science and Technology, Computer Science, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Physics and Transportation Studies can expect to move in to the new facility some time in 2013.

A ground breaking ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m., Feb. 9th at the university. Students, faculty, staff, members of the technology advisory board and members of the TSU Board of Regents will attend the ground breaking ceremony.
