Lady Braves defeat Grambling

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on March 09, 2012 Alcorn State advanced to the SWAC Championship game with a 67-41 win over Grambling. The team came out strong in the first half hitting key shots and playing outstanding defense. After losing two previous match-ups against the Tigers, the Lady Braves led at the half with a score of 33-15. The second half provided more action as Alcorn State pushed their lead up to 30 points. Kiara Ruffin led all scorers with 15 points. Au-Juvan Andrews added 10 points in the Lady Braves’ victory over Grambling. “The credit goes to the young ladies for coming out and playing hard for 40 minutes,” said Head Coach Tonya Edwards. “We played aggressively from the start,” says President M. Christopher Brown II proudly. “It is a terrific win for us - our student athletes and Coach Edwards are showcasing just how BRAVE we are.” The Lady Braves’ bench contributed 22 points while shooting 65.4% from the free throw line. Alcorn State will face the winner of Prairie View/Mississippi Valley Saturday March 10 at 5 PM Central. Fans can listen live on WPRL 91.7 FM, www.wprl.org or watch on ESPNU.
