battered on FAMU campus...should I leave?

battered on FAMU campus...should I leave?
Posted By: Kourtney Harris on October 16, 2005

Hello everyone. How is everyone doing? When I first got my acceptance letter to FAMU I was soo exicted . At first I really liked FAMU. I still do but there are some things that have happened to me at famu that made me become distant towards it. Last week I was coming from the math lad when all of a sudden someone that I dont even know punches me in the face for no reason!!This guy has no idea who I am and I have no idea who he is. Infact, there is no specific reason as to why this happened. He puched me to the ground and then told me to get up. I was so embarrssed and hurt. I had to get my mouth wired because of a jaw fracture and I will not be able to eat solid food or talk for six weeks. This has made me angry but yet I know that there arent many crazy people walking along famu campus.

However, this incident has caused me to not really trust famu campus. I feel unsafe and I feel that there are some issues that need to be resolved here on famu campus. I have been thinking about transferring but I wanted to know some of the famu students opinions and suggestions as to what I should do. I really dont want to leave famu but there are some things about it that turn me off. I would like to know if any one thinks that I should go or stay? Should I let this experience, financial aid, not getting to know anyone well, not feeling safe, or being bored on campus allow me to transfer or should I stay?? I dont want to leave because I want to give FAMU a chance and I dont want to be a quiter but then again I dont know if this school is the top like I was told.
I would love for anyone to comment.
Thank you

It's kind of hard to believe this situation. I've been a student at FAMU for 5 years and have never heard such a thing. You're student at FAMU, whoever violated you need to be convicted of this crime. College help build morals, values, and integrity. FAMU's motto is "Excellence with Caring", which means they must practice what they instill in us throughout our college years. I'm sure if FAMU Law Enforcement and/or President Bryant knew of this crime, both criminal and moral justice will be served. So, my advice to you is.......be an adult. Let someone know you were violated. And no, there isn't crazy people walking around FAMU, !NEWSFLASH! they're walking around the world! Why should you go off the judgement of other FAMU students? If justice isn't served shouldn't that be enough to tell you FAMU isn't the place for you.

I know that I do not go to that school but is there more to this story? Because it is not likely for someone u do not know and they do not know u to come up and punch u. Unless they were trying to rob u, or unless u started something with someone first

Baby Girl, you have to tell the authorities. FAMU would not want one of their students to be in so much pain because of an illegal matter and not press charges against the perpetrator. There are people like this guy everywhere. Please don't walk by yourself. You have to make friends. You need to have people with you. This man apparently has issues. He may even have mental problems. Unfortunately a lot of people who are smart enough to go to college still have mental issues that if not properly diagnosed and treated could cause them to become unstable. Pray and keep yourself covered at all times and stay on your course there at school. Don't let this unfortunate event cause you to veer off.

I'm so sorry this happened to you.

Dang...that's completely crazy. You need to report the incident to the campus police first. If they don't do anything, go to the city police.

FAMU has been going through a lot lately. You def need to consider your safety. If you not happy there, consider transfering to another school. You may lose some credits, but your safety is more important than anything. If you need any other help, feel free to PM me and I'll give you a number to reach me at. Just hang in there, and don't get down or anything...

yeah, i agree you should go to the campus police and tell them what happen. also make sure you have pictures of your face/jaw and medical documation for this will all aid in ur defense. No skool is perfect, so it don't matter if you transfer. there are going to be corrupt ppl anywhere. See if you can find any witness and the guys name.

Now I wasn't there, so I don't know what happened but when you tell the officals make sure you know what you're gonna say. In other words, make sure it's the entire story b/c it sounds like some parts where left out.
Regardless of what the whole truth is, no one should be allowed to physically harm you and get away with it. And you leaving should be your decision, no one else can decide for you.
