More HBCU’s are Offering Advanced Degrees
|
Posted By: Tiffany Flowers on March 20, 2012 Years ago… I remember sitting through my second graduate program at the University of Iowa and reading studies about the nature of graduate degrees. I found out that the majority of undergraduate degrees only prepared students for graduate study. Universities, companies, school systems, and government agencies were seeking out new hires with graduate degrees and credentials to match. I then went on to find out that the graduation rates of African American students from college were dismal. If it weren’t for the large numbers of graduates from HBCU’s there would be hardly any African American graduates. Additionally, larger schools have always attested to the need to increase the numbers of not only African Americans but minorities. Therefore, the issue of increasing the numbers of African Americans attending and completing graduate programs is a critical issue. I am personally glad to see the increasing numbers of graduate programs being offered at HBCU’s. The only issue we are faced with now is getting more students to attend graduate programs at HBCU’s in order to broaden their opportunities and career outlook. For those interested in attending graduate programs at HBCU’s you can follow the link below to learn more about these schools: http://www.tnj.com/lists-resources/hbcu Tiffany A.
