Students from historically black colleges and universities have long been at the forefront of social and political progress. The election of 2008 was no exception. Four years ago, students from HBCUs around the country came together to organize a movement for change that helped elect Barack Obama. With our help, President Obama has fought for the African American community, addressing issues such as healthcare, education, and jobs. He’s made progressive changes based on our shared values, including a $2.5 billion investment in HBCUs and minority-serving institutions across 10 years to improve access to higher education for African Americans. But he knows there’s more work to do.

In the coming months, he needs you to help defend the progress that we’ve made together and continue to fight for more. This campaign won’t succeed without your help, because real change comes from the grassroots. By joining now, you can help build a volunteer team on your campus. You can begin engaging your peers to make the personal connections that are critical to this election.

Sign up on our volunteer page for more information on how to get involved at your HBCU.

Our HBCU Student Summits launched on February 21 on the campus of North Carolina Central University (NCCU), where actress Gabrielle Union hosted a discussion with Obama for America Campaign Manager Jim Messina, Democratic Strategist Valerie Jarrett, and Congressman G.K. Butterfield. You can watch a recording of the event here. In conjunction with the NCCU event, there are also 28 schools participating in HBCU organizing meetings and roundtables in the coming days. These events present an opportunity for student leaders to mobilize support for the President on their campuses and in their school’s neighboring communities. The campaign will also visit 12 schools in 11 states as part of the Greater Together Summit Tour in addition to the HBCU events because young people will play a key part in this election

I encourage all students of HBCU's past and present to support President Obama's reelection efforts.
We supported Bill Clinton. Surely we can support President Obama. We have to stave off the Republican Depression. It is inevitable that the USA will see a Great Depression due to the unending Wars. We All need to prepare now. The NRA is preparing ! All Educated HBCU persons need to be prepared.
