The Austin Fire Department (AFD) is proud of our city's reputation, which is why we are looking for qualified applicants that represent and reflect the multicultural communities we serve. AFD offers an appealing and rewarding career for a number of reasons. The values of an Austin firefighter include family camaraderie, respect, honor, giving back to the community, being positive role models, and pride in their work. Additionally, most firefighters work a flexible schedule of 24 hours on duty and 48 hours off duty. This schedule lends itself beneficial to leading a professionally and personally fulfilling life. The job of an Austin firefighter is at times challenging, but it is also extremely rewarding. Benefits include: A six month paid fire academy; $53,456 base salary after one year of service; $63,311 base salary after three years of service; A tuition reimbursement program; Full health benefits; Excellent retirement program; Generous vacation time Applicants must be 18 years old and not to exceed age 35 on May 23rd, 2012, and have either two years of military experience or 15 college credit hours.
