THOROBRED News: KSU To Host 13th Annual Conference On African Studies

Posted By: How May I Help You NC on April 12, 2012 Kentucky State University will host its 13th annual Interdisciplinary Roundtable Conference on African Studies on Friday, April 6, and Saturday, April 7. The conference brings scholars, KSU students and professionals from various disciplines and institutions to KSU to celebrate African heritage. Guest speakers include Dr. C. T. Wright, founder and chairman for The Light of Hope Institute, which promotes human rights around the world from its headquarters in Fountain Hills, Ariz. Wright will speak during the opening plenary session at 1 p.m. Friday in the Carl M. Hill Student Center Ballroom. Papers will be presented during sessions in the student center from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. All forums and presentations are free. His Imperial Highness Prince Ermias Sahle-Selassie Haile-Selassie, president of the Crown Council of Ethiopia, will speak during the banquet at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Capital Plaza Hotel. The Crown Council of Ethiopia is the constitutional body that advises the reigning emperors of Ethiopia. Prince Ermias has been involved in the development and institutionalization of democratic principles and market economic philosophies in Africa, particularly in the Horn of Africa. He is a vocal member of the expatriate Ethiopian community in the United States and actively follows issues related to the Horn of Africa. There will also be deejay entertainment during the banquet, which is $20 per person.
