The USA Police Department (USAPD) arrived on the scene and placed the school on lock down for approximately 5 hours. The police maintain that no one was injured. The USA chapter of Students for Concealed (SCC) points to this incident as yet another example of the ineffectiveness of 'gun-free' zones. ”In Alabama, individual universities have the ability to form rules that make campus carry an academic offense punishable by expulsion. These rules ensure that these campuses remain ‘gun-free zones’, guaranteeing to criminals that potential victims will be unarmed”, said Phillip Harding, Alabama Director of SCC. “We simply believe that individuals should have the same self-defense options on campus as they do everywhere else.” Students for Concealed Carry is a national non-partisan grassroots organization dedicated to spreading awareness of and education about the discrepancy of gun laws on and off college campuses. The organization aims to legalize the concealed carry of firearms on public university and college campuses.
