A Jacksonville High School graduate is motivated to make a royal impact on her peers and the community as Fayetteville State’s University newest queen.

Barbara L. Henry, a junior criminal justice major, was crowned Miss Fayetteville State University during the 21st annual Scholarship Pageant on April 14. Henry excelled on stage in several categories, including interview, athletic wear, artistic expression, on-stage knowledge and awareness and evening gown. She also won the Olivia Chavis Best Evening Gown Award and the Maceo Smith Talent Award.

“I was very excited, and I was in a little bit of a shock because I thought it was a very intense process,” Henry said. “I had a lot of competition but … (am) excited and very happy

The daughter of Marvin G. Henry and Pauline Heard Henry of Jacksonville, Henry graduated from Jacksonville High in 2009. As a first generation college student in her family, Henry said that it was important to her to use her talents and knowledge to make a difference in the lives of other young people.

“Jacksonville is a very small city, so I wanted to get out and learn something different and obtain a degree to ensure my future was going in the right direction,” she said.

Very nice to see a girl with beauty, and wisdom. I hope she will have a wonderful career, and be a role model to all other girls who would want to follow in her foot steps.
