ST. LOUIS, MO (May 8, 2012) – Harris-Stowe State University will host its 155th commencement convocation on its campus, conferring 160 graduates in the Emerson Performance Center Board of Regents Gymnasium. The ceremony, which will double as President Albert Walker’s installation, will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 10 a.m. President Walker will serve as the keynote speaker.

It has been nearly two decades since Harris-Stowe celebrated graduation on its campus; in past years, Powell Symphony Hall has been the site for commencement. As part of the new tradition, HSSU graduates will walk through the campus as students one last time, parading from the Henry Givens Jr. Administration Building, through the Amphitheatre to the Emerson Center.

This year, HSSU will graduate its largest classes since 2001, a 13 percent increase from last year’s class. While no honorary degrees will be awarded, the university is looking forward to officially inaugurating its new president, Dr. Walker.

A reception in Bosley Hall will immediately follow the ceremony.

Harris-Stowe State University, located in midtown St. Louis, is a four-year institution that offers 14 degree programs in the areas of Accounting, Business Administration, Biology, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Health Care Management, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Information Sciences and Computer Technology, Mathematics, Middle School Education, Professional Interdisciplinary Studies, Secondary Education and Urban Affairs. Ranked by U.S. News as one of America’s Best Colleges in the Midwest, the university, which has been in existence for more than 150 years, offers the most affordable bachelor’s degree in the metropolitan area.
