Position Description Surety Trainees participate in our surety training program with the ultimate goal to become Surety Underwriters. The one-year long training program combines on the job and formal class work. In the training program, a Surety Trainee learns the fundamentals of the surety business, acquires an understanding of Chubb's underwriting philosophy and tools, develops the financial acumen necessary to become an underwriter, learns about the structure of the company and the department, and gains knowledge about the insurance industry while developing his/her business and communication skills. While in the training program, Surety Trainees contribute to the achievement of the Surety Department goals by assisting in the underwriting and service functions of the Department and are expected to assume greater responsibilities as their underwriting abilities develop. Surety Underwriters will have underwriting as well as marketing responsibilities on an assigned book of business. The underwriting responsibilities include reviewing and evaluating financial information and contract documents, forming an opinion and making recommendations based on that information. The position includes marketing responsibilities such as maintaining and servicing existing accounts, developing new relationships, and visiting with customers and agents regularly. Competencies/Tech Skills - College Degree (financial or accounting course work desirable) - 3.0 GPA or higher - Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills - Strong financial background (banking, financial services or construction) - Significant analytical skills - Exceptional organizational skills If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
