Putting A Stop To Bullying In Schools

Putting A Stop To Bullying In Schools
Posted By: How May I Help You NC on July 17, 2012

Salt Lake City, UT, July 17, 2012 – Bullying can happen literally anywhere – in a big city or rural town. Children get picked on for any number of reasons; being overweight, homosexual, shy, disabled - often there is no reason. What we know with certainty is that it’s cruel, cowardly and unacceptable – and it needs to be stopped.

It was after T.S. Romney worked in law enforcement, specifically in crimes against children that he began to see what was going on in the world and all that children had to face, especially with bullying in school and in cyber bullying. During this time and later as a columnist for a local newspaper, he began working on a book to relieve stress. The result is The Legend of the Bully Slayer: The Dishonor Roll (Old Line Publishing) by T.S. Romney, and it has parents talking about the power of its compelling messages and how it is building confidence in their children.

From the rave reviews on Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com, parents and grandparents alike love this book and believe all kids should read it. In fact, one reviewer feels it would make a great movie as so many kids will relate to it! Readers will be happy to know they get their wish for a sequel; Romney is currently working on the next in the series to be released in the spring of 2013.

The Legend of the Bully Slayer is about two kids, Alex and Nic, who are starting third grade at Bill Penn Elementary.

Every year they have been the targets of dodge ball attacks, toilet swirly, name calling and a variety of other resourceful but hideous methods of bullying. However, one day at the end of second grade as Alex is held upside down receiving a toilet swirly, he notices an ad placed on the back of the toilet advertising the services of a bully slayer. After calling the number, a wise-talking third-grader named Matheson arrives. What follows is a string of events that not only change the lives of Alex and Nic, but the lives of everyone at Bill Penn Elementary!

The Legend of the Bully Slayer is an empowering book for children and sheds light on bullying. Told in an easy-to-understand story format, it has an exciting plot that is drizzled with humor and filled with compelling messages that help build confidence and give children the tools they need to deal with school bullies. It is a book that should be in every school’s library and required reading for all children.

Bullying can have lasting repercussions. Statistics from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ASPCC) show that each day in America approximately 160,000 students refuse to go to school because they dread the physical and verbal aggression of their peers and many more attend school but are in a chronic state of anxiety and depression. Often the effects of bullying continue into adulthood.

The Legend of the Bully Slayer is sold at fine bookstores or online at Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com or the author’s website. For more information on T.S. Romney, please email: tsromney@live.com .
