Xavier University Sweepstakes: Compete to win!

Posted By: How May I Help You NC on July 18, 2012

This summer, we not only want to know what you're reading; we want you to share what you're reading with other people. The Social Reading Sweepstakes is open to all currently enrolled Xavier students (that includes first-time freshmen who will begin in the Fall 2012 term). One winner, selected at random from all valid entries, will receive $500.00 to pay for his or her textbooks for the fall semester. Sweepstakes ends August 15, 2012.

How to Enter

Participating in this contest is easy. You just need to follow these four steps:

Read a book for pleasure between now and August 15. (By for pleasure we mean reading something because you want to, not because you have to. Textbooks and other assigned books don't count.)
Take a picture of yourself holding the book, making sure that the author and title are clearly visible. (While we're not judging the quality of your photograph, you should bear in mind that the entire world will be able to see it.)
Post the picture on Twitter, tag a friend you think should read the book, and tag the tweet with #xusocialreading. (You might say something like this: @myfriend should read INFINITE JEST. #xusocialreading.)
Repeat these three steps as quickly as you can read another book. (Please, though, be sure to read the book before you post it. Intentions are good but they don't count here.)

To improve your chances of winning, keep this suggestions in mind:

Don't create multiple Twitter accounts to increase your number of entries. (Twitter will cancel all your accounts if they catch you doing this.)
Send only one tweet for each book you read. (Again, Twitter will cancel your account if you attempt to "spam" the contest.)
Remember to include the hashtag #xusocialreading in your tweet. (If you don't, we won't know about your submission.)

Terms and Conditions

How to Enter: To enter the Summer Reading Sweepstakes ("Contest"), follow the instructrions described above. By entering this Contest, you are claiming to have read, in its entirety, the book specified in your entry during the period specified. Submissions that fail to meet all of the above requirements or that are found to be inaccurate will be voided. Submissions that are deemed offensive or inappropriate or that do not live up to the spirit and mission of Read Today, Lead Tomorrow will be voided. Multiple entries for the same book will not be accepted.

By submitting photographs or other materials ("Content") to this Contest, you hereby grant to Xavier University of Louisiana ("Xavier") and its QEP Office ("Sponsor") a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, limited license to use, modify, delete, display, and reproduce your Content.

Sponsor maintains full discretion to determine whether or not to use your Content. Sponsor agrees not to sell your Content to any third parties. Prizes: One winner will receive a $500.00 gift certificate from the Barnes & Noble textbook store at Xavier. Barnes & Noble is a trademarks of Barnes & Noble, Inc. Barnes & Noble is not a participant in or a sponsor of this sweepstakes. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute the announced prize for a prize of equal or greater value.

Drawing: The winner will be selected in a random drawing to be conducted on or after August 15, 2012. The random drawing will be conducted electronically, and the electronic results will be final. The odds of winning will depend upon the total number of eligible entries received. The winner will be notified on or after the date of the drawing. If Sponsor is unable to contact the potential winner by email or if the potential winner fails to respond to the prize notification within 14 days of issuance of notification or if the winner fails to comply with any of the requirements, an alternate winner shall be selected through another random drawing conducted electronically. The winner must have a valid Xavier University of Lousiana student ID card in order to pick up the prize. By entering the Contest, all entrants authorize the use of their names and/or images for promotional purposes without additional compensation, except where prohibited by law. If there is any suspected or actual evidence of electronic or non-electronic tampering with any portion of the Contest, or if technical difficulties compromise the integrity of the drawing, Sponsor reserves the right to terminate the contest and conduct a random drawing to award the prize using all eligible entries received as of the termination date. Should the contest be terminated prior to the stated expiration date, notice will be posted on the Read Today, Lead Tomorrow web site.

Eligibility: This contest is open to Xavier University of Louisiana students who are enrolled for the Fall 2012 term. This promotion is not open to full-time faculty or staff members employed by Xavier. By entering, participants without limitation, release and hold harmless Xavier for any loss or damage of any kind in connection with this sweepstakes or acceptance and use of a prize won.
