FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 26, 2012) – Kentucky State Director of Athletics, Dr. Denisha L. Hendricks, has been selected by her alma mater, Auburn University, as a recipient of the institution's prestigious Young Alumni Achievement Award.

The Young Alumni Achievement Award was created to recognize extraordinary accomplishments by members of the Auburn family who are 40 years of age or under. Sixteen recipients were selected for significant achievement in their professional lives and/or for distinguished community service.

“I am honored to receive this award from my alma mater,” Hendricks declared. “To be recognized with people like Octavia Spencer is truly humbling.” Oscar Award-winning actress Octavia Spencer is best-known for her role as Minny in the 2011film The Help.

"Auburn graduates are making significant contributions in a variety of occupations all across the globe, and some of the more interesting stories are happening with our young alumni," said Debbie Shaw, vice president for alumni affairs at Auburn University. "It's a great honor to recognize them in this way. Auburn's future is shining a bit brighter due to the impact made by these impressive individuals."

Along with a certificate and special commemoration of the award, Hendricks' will also be recognized in the fall issue of Auburn Magazine, which is sent out to over 45,000 members of the Auburn Alumni Association.
