5 Reasons it's a Great Idea to be Active on HBCU Connect

5 Reasons it

FEATURED Content

I recently became active on HBCU Connect again and I'm happy about it for a few reasons. Social media networks come and go. Facebook started selling data, so I shut down the page and moved to Twitter (@Jpbray)... who will be next for you, Google +? Tumbler?

The need for a way to connect that is Internet based won't change though. Traditional community just isn't what it used to be. Boundaries are expanded and collaboration is super intensified with the ability to communicate across city, state and country lines.

So what does HBCU Connect bring?

1. Safety. I've been active over the years and not once have I come in contact with radical weirdness. I can't say that about any other network.

2. A place to be yourself. We spend time adapting the the surroundings, but on HBCU Connect you can let your guard down a bit. It's a commonly shared fundamental experience. It's more like being back in the old neighborhood, versus a more unfamiliar network.

3. Collaboration. At the core of the HBCU experience is understanding your history, service, and respect. It makes sense to find people who share like values who you can grow with personally and professionally.

And with time limited, why not stay connected on a social media platform like HBCU Connect?

4. Longevity. HBCU Connect has been around since 1999, and in case you didn't know, with pretty much the same core group of people supporting the vision. That's not very common in business and absolutely not common in the Black community. It states a lot! Putting it in perspective, BET is a Black network that is not Black-owned. Local Black radio is normally made up of networks that these days are not Black-owned. (Which is why you can fly from Alabama to D.C. and hear the same songs on the radio, grrrr!) If you're old enough to remember the difference from 10 years ago, I'm sure you will appreciate and participate with THIS network.

5. Relevance. Technology has huge benefits to speeding things along, but in the process we are very busy, stressed and our communities fragmented. We change jobs every three to five years. We change churches just as much, if we even go. Family reunions? Class reunions? It's a way to stay grounded though all of these changes. ;)

HBCU Connect is a place to stay connected to the Black experience, that is if we all participate and make it a diverse conversation.

Hi Joyce:

Happy to have made your acquaintance... Yeah, the HBCU is as you've described; I concur! This site is the place to be now, yesterday, and in the future - Twitter is a site that is timely as well. The opportunity to blast a message sometimes nets positive results - it delivers your message to the masses as fast as lightning... or at least as fast as the reader can read it. :-)

Peace and Love,

Greg.
