Posted By: How May I Help You NC on August 27, 2012 City of New York/Parks & Recreation Seasonal Job Vacancy Notice Office Title: Playground Associate Salary: $14.90/hour Duration: 10-Month Position Work Location: Far Rockaway, Qns: Harlem, Mn; Crown Heights, BK and Fordham, BX Positions Available: 16-19 New York City/Parks & Recreation is seeking energetic individuals to provide academic, athletic, civic and cultural programming to children ages 6-13 in its Turn 2 funded Afterschool Programs. Major Responsibilities: * Provide dynamic afterschool programming in various fields including education (tutoring), sports, fitness, arts and culture, and civic engagement during critical after school hours (2:15 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.) * Create lesson plans to engage participants in educational activities, arts and sports. * Develop activities that complement NYC Parks’ Recreation mission and Derek Jeter’s 10 life lessons. * Work closely with the site coordinator to execute all program goals. * Supervise and escort children on trips and provide supervision during outdoor programming (must be willing to travel). * Organize special events for parents, children, and funders including Turn 2 Holiday Event and Instructional Baseball Clinics as well as other sporting events. * Ensure proper health and safety standards in areas that children will occupy including recreation centers, parks and playgrounds. * Uphold discipline and prevent disturbances * Accurately record and track enrollments, attendance and student progress. * Organize holiday and vacation camp events. Minimum Qualifications: 1. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and either: a) Two summer seasons, or six months, of experience as an instructor, counselor, or coach in an organized recreational program; or b) Completion of sixty credits toward a baccalaureate degree in an accredited colleges; or 2. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” above. Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required for all other candidates. Preferred Skills/Qualifications: BA/BS degree in Math, English, Science, Child Psychology, Social Work or other related fields Experience in providing tutorial services in Math, ELA, ESL, Science and general tutoring. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Experience coaching, sports and fitness. Valid New York State driver license.
