Posted By: How May I Help You NC on August 27, 2012 Announcement of Position Opening POSITION: Educational Assistant (STRIDE Program Career Specialist, Region II) Full Time Grant Funded Position ANTICIPATED STARTING DATE: September 2012 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Incumbents are required to have demonstrated knowledge and abilities in the following areas: classroom instruction; experience in criminal justice field; recruiting, employment or job preparation and readiness programs; case management and coordination; information technology literacy skills; organization and analytical skills; ability to work with diverse agencies, groups and individuals; effective oral and written communications. These skills and abilities typically are acquired through a combination of education, training and experience which would include a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriately related field together with one to four years of experience in a related field; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties. Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications as stated are encouraged to put in writing precisely how their background and experience have prepared them for the responsibilities of the position and by providing appropriate references. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Region II Career Specialist will teach the STRIDE curriculum at Corrigan-Radgowski and Bridgeport Correctional Centers in addition to any other new facility in the region. The 10-week curriculum will instruct inmates on the following modules: job readiness, job search and job placement. You will oversee and respond to all inter-correctional mail, guide participants through pre-release transitional plans, responsible for all correctional orientations and recruiting of all participants, provide participants with mini employment-based workshops, transitional discharge planning and necessary resources, market the STRIDE Program to inter-correctional staff and inmates at all centers and collaborate with inter-correctional staff and community providers as necessary. Your main site will be in the Community College System/community based organization or Quinebaug Valley Community College’s Danielson campus, depending upon the needs of the program. Successful candidate will be subject to a Department of Corrections successful background check, must hold a valid driver’s license, and will be subject to a computer literacy exam.
