So how are we supposed to feel about Lance Armstrong?
|
Posted By: Joyce Brayboy on August 27, 2012 "How do I feel about the Lance Armstrong controversy?" is a question I answered today. Ironically enough I just ran across an article talking about how people are supposed to feel about Lance, the hero. If you are a cycling competitor, maybe you feel cheated. If you are not a cyclist, why be let down? - Armstrong was the national sprint-course triathlon champion in 1989 and 1990 when he was less than 20 years old. - At 12, even at his start, he finished fourth in Texas state 1,500-meter freestyle. - And the fact is that Armstrong ran his first marathon, New York City in 3 hours. In 2007 he was the 232nd finisher. - Armstrong has raised $500M for the fight against cancer, $325M from the yellow Livestrong bracelets. I always wear my Livestrong bracelet for runs more than 13 miles. I wore it Saturday for a 12 mile run just because ... it's not about winning. I haven't watched more than five minutes of the Tour de France over the course of his seven wins. But I don't run without that yellow bracelet. Armstrong left cycling and he kept going. He called his first marathon "without a doubt the hardest physical thing I have ever done." It didn't stop him though. His perseverance has given countless cancer victims enough hope to choose life! Livestrong has without a doubt touched millions of people. Why do I care that he doesn't have a medal?
