Walgreens Hot Job: Media Relations Specialist

Posted By: How May I Help You NC on October 08, 2012 The Media Relations Specialist enhances corporate reputation through news media and public relations. Communicates company’s positions on issues, responds to media inquiries and proactively publicizes company message. Assists in writing and editing a variety of documents for external audiences, including press releases. Coordinates media interviews and drafts talking points. Job Responsibilities: •Helps position Walgreens as the leader in the healthcare, pharmacy and retail markets. Assists in driving awareness of Walgreens new and innovative retail stores, services and products; new initiatives of other corporate departments and business units; community engagement and social responsibility •Uses creativity, strategic thinking and excellent tactical execution to tell the Walgreens story and generate media coverage. Works closely with manager to develop, plan and execute PR strategies and programs. •Assists with issues management and crisis communications, sometimes requiring after-business-hours response. •Develops strong story ideas, writes press releases, creates media talking points and pitches and builds relationships with editors and reporters. Responds to media requests professionally, with integrity and in a timely manner. •Develops good working relationships with internal teams and executives who are important resources for gathering information for the news media. •Communicates a deep understanding of Walgreens product line and the competitive landscape. •Collaborates with government relations, community relations, diversity office, IT, and legal and facilities divisions on both PR opportunities and controversial issues. •May assist the internal employee communications team and marketing communications department in other markets and areas as needs arise. •Prepares executives for media interviews by researching and writing talking points. Maintains news release contact lists via online database and coordinates distribution of major company announcements. Uses online databases to research topics for management, as requested.
