Talladega College Golf Team Is Ranked No. 2 Team In the Nation

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on October 11, 2012 A group of freshmen at Talladega College are making their mark nationally and taking the golf arena by storm. Golfstat, the national ranking service for collegiate golf, released its newest rankings this week. The Tornado Golf team is ranked as the 2nd best recruiting class in the country. The Tornadoes are ranked behind Embry Riddle of Arizona and ahead of Oklahoma Baptist University. The current team is comprised of five freshmen: Drake Mosely from Devers, Texas; Jonathan Ortiz, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Maram Macham, Atlanta, Georgia; Daniel Pachon-Vargas, Bogata, Columbia, South America and Craig Whatley from Canton, Michigan. The men’s team recently competed in the 2012 Black College Hall of Fame Classic Invitational golf tournament at Brown’s Mill Golf Course in Atlanta, Georgia and won first place in Division II. The Talladega College men’s golf team competed in the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Invitational October 7-9. The field consisted of twenty-seven teams most of which were ranked in the top 75 in the country. TC shot 320-313=643 to tie for 18th. Individually, Jonathan Ortiz led the Tornadoes with a 75-72=147 to finish in a tie for 14th out of almost a 130 participants. Also, Daniel Pachon-Vargas shot 80-77=157, Drake Mosley shot 82-77=159. Rounding out for the Tornadoes, Maram Macham shot 83-87 and Craig Whatley shot 92-84. The Tornadoes will swing into action October 28-30 at the Reinhardt University Invitational in Waleska, Ga.
