ASU Alumni and Fans: It’s Time for the Soul Bowl Again!
|
Posted By: Reginald Claremont on October 18, 2012 This year’s biggest and most anticipated in-state SWAC football rivalry between the ASU Braves and JSU Tigers will be held on Alcorn’s historic campus. The same great game with a Brave new name will take place on November 17, as “The Magnolia Heritage Classic: The Return of the Soul Bowl 2012”. The game isn’t the only competition seeking support from Alcorn alumni and fans— The Soul Bowl Giving Challenge begins now and runs through November 15. The Challenge is an Alcorn State University and Jackson State University alumni competition dedicated to raising funds to support students of both universities. It is a great way to give back to your alma mater while showcasing your school pride. The university whose alumni raise the most money for student scholarships between now and November 15, wins. The winner will be announced during half-time at the 2012 Magnolia Heritage Classic on November 17. To make the competition more interesting, Alcorn alumna and WJTV star Melissa Faith Payne encourages her fellow alumni to raise the most money and win the Challenge once again to have her co-worker and JSU alumnus Ken South wear Alcorn’s purple and gold. “We did it last year and I am sure we can win again this year. Let’s pull together and raise funds to help our beloved Alcorn win! Go Braves!” The funds donated will go directly to the ASU Foundation to benefit students by providing scholarships. To give your gift today online, go to WJTV.com and in the search field type the keyword “Soul”, then, in the Soul Bowl Giving Challenge story click on the Click Here to donate to the Alcorn State Fund. Alcornites can also mail in a tax-deductible gift to: ASU Foundation, 1000 ASU Drive #810, Alcorn State, MS 39096. Please make checks and money orders payable to the ASU Foundation and write “Soul Bowl Giving Challenge” in the memo section. Checks and money orders should be postmarked by November 15, 2012, to be counted in the grand total. For more information, contact LaToya Hentz at 601.877.6323 or lhentz@alcorn.edu Alcorn, let’s prove that we are BRAVE enough to beat the JSU Tigers in a competition off of the field by donating to the Soul Bowl giving challenge today! ### Alcorn State University is a premier comprehensive land-grant university that develops diverse students into globally-competitive leaders, and applies scientific research through collaborative partnerships which benefit the surrounding communities, state, nation and world.
