Tammi McCall - Bennett College for Women
|
Posted By: latoya taylor on November 02, 2012 “Tammi Mac” works for Stevie Wonder! That’s right; the bard of soul music is MaCall’s employer. Now how cool is that? If you’re reading this article and thinking, I wish … MaCall would quickly tell you, “Stop wishing and just do it! Life is really simple, if you just do it! “It took getting fired from my job in Birmingham (an urban adult radio program) to find the courage to pursue my goal to be an actress,” MaCall says. “I came to Los Angeles with no job and no money. I had three college degrees; I did cigarette surveys at midnight while working at Universal Studios and doing temp jobs. You have to believe you will excel. You have to believe what you have comes from God. The constant rejection you get from Hollywood will beat you to the ground.” Today MaCall hosts the “Mac and Amiche Afternoon Show.” Her sultry voice and soul-sister personality help her listeners navigate LA’s congested concrete jungle as daytime melds into early evening on Stevie Wonder’s radio station. And, oh, by the way, her show is the TOP adult urban gig in the 7 p.m. to midnight slot. She’s got it like that! “Stop wishing and just do it! Life is really simple, if you just do it!”--Tammi MaCall" Lest there be any question about how MaCall assesses her success, she is both humble and realistic. “(I am) more appreciative of things that are non-tangible,” she confesses. “I value my family more. I’ve had to learn to value morals a little bit more. There have been offers on the table that have forced me to put my morals in perspective. “Every day becomes an accomplishment because it begins to be about the journey and not about the outcomes. Your outcomes are filled with so many expectations that you end up not letting God do the work.” “(Acting),” she adds, “is my passion, and I love it in an unexplainable way. I love the process. I love scripts. In acting, you can’t mask what you’re trying to emote. I can eat, sleep and breathe acting.” MaCall is living her passion: honing her craft while bringing fun and excitement into people’s lives. MaCall’s four-year tenure in Los Angeles has been promising. Aside from hosting one of the top-rated adult urban night radio shows in the city, she has been a part of the critically acclaimed theatrical production of August Wilson’s, “The Piano Lesson.” She has also appeared on Lifetime’s “Strong Medicine” and more. More recently, she has starred and co-starred in the Don B. Welch productions “Idella’s Soul Shack” and “The Bachelorette Party” alongside Essence Atkins and Dawn Lewis.
