CIAA Suffers Loss of Former Johnson C. Smith Women’s Basketball Standout

Posted By: How May I Help You NC on December 05, 2012 Hampton, VA- The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association expresses its grief for the untimely loss of former Johnson C. Smith University women’s basketball standout and All-Conference leader, Tiana Pope, who passed away this morning as a result of a vehicle wreck in Kernersville, North Carolina. The CIAA community and conference Commissioner extends its deepest condolences to Pope’s family and celebrates her life, accomplishments and contributions to the CIAA. “The CIAA family mourns the loss of Ms. Tiana Pope. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are extended to her immediate family, her former teammates, classmates, coaches, professors and the rest of the Johnson C. Smith family,” says Commissioner Jacqie Carpenter. Pope took the conference by storm in her freshman year, earning All-Rookie honors for the 2003-2004 season. She went on to earn women’s basketball All-Conference First Team honors in 2006 and 2007. Tiana was a dual-sport student-athlete who also ran for the Lady Golden Bulls’ Women’s Cross Country Team and was an active member of the JCSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
