HSRN To Broadcast Winston-Salem State’s NCAA Division II Championship Game
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on December 13, 2012

The Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN), “The Voice of HBCU Sports”, will broadcast Winston-Salem State’s battle for the NCAA Division II Championship against Valdosta State, from Florence, Alabama on Saturday, December 15, 2012.

HSRN’s broadcast can be heard on the internet at HSRN.com, and will also be carried live on Sirius/XM satellite radio (Sirius 128). Other HSRN broadcast affiliates include Tunein.com, Onnidan.com and HBCUConnect.com. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 PM (ET) with HSRN’s broadcast beginning one-hour earlier, at 12:00 PM (ET).

Winston-Salem State (13-0) is the champion of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and Valdosta State (11-2) is the champion of the Gulf South Conference (GSC)
Winston-Salem State is just the second Historically Black College and University (HBCU) to reach the Championship Game, with the other being Central State of Ohio in 1983. Central State lost that game to North Dakota State, 41-21. The Rams advanced to the semi-final round last season (2011).

This is the first Championship Game appearance by Winston- Salem State or any team from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. This is Valdosta State’s fourth appearance in the championship game. The Blazers won Division II titles in 2004 and 2007 and finished as the runner-up in 2002.

Winston-Salem State will try and become just the fifth school in Division II history to go 15-0. Northwest Missouri State was the first in 1998, followed by Grand Valley State in 2006 and Minnesota-Duluth in 2008 and 2010.
