Position Details Department: 051021 - Office of International Programs Position: 00008408 - International Study Advisor Grade or Band: 2ND Job Description The International Study Advisor is responsible for advising Boston College students about study abroad opportunities in Spain and Latin America. Advising duties include assisting with the selection of BC and approved external programs, advising on program curricula and course offerings, facilitating the application process, offering tailored pre-departure orientation sessions which cover OIP policies and procedures, academics, health and safety, and cross-cultural skills, and assisting with the visa process. S/he communicates regularly with students, BC faculty and staff, parents, onsite coordinators, and host university officials. Upon students' return, s/he manages program assessment activities, reentry events, and reporting of the study abroad experience. The International Study Advisor is also responsible for the management and development of the programs in his/her region, which involves communicating with onsite coordinators about all aspects of programs; maintaining accountability of onsite staff through assessment of monthly and semester reports; communicating regularly with partner institutions and external providers; ensuring that programs are running smoothly, and disseminating program changes to appropriate constituents; coordinating marketing and outreach events; reviewing grading on programs; and assisting with outcomes assessment. Requirements *excellent written and oral communication skills * strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-up * excellent cross-cultural skills * advanced understanding of systems of higher education in the United States, Spain and Latin America * strong computer skills and evidence of ability to develop strong innovative technology applications * international experience * foreign language proficiency (Spanish preferred) *thorough understanding of curricular structures and requirements *Master's Degree required.
