I highly recommend it. Here is the reason why. Not only will it prepare students for careers in Fundraising and Philanthropy, it also will train them to understand money flow - how to attract big money and who the big donors are - and they can apply those skills in their own lives. I have experience in engineering, but marketing/entrepreneurship is exciting because it provides new levels of creativity and allows me to create my own financial economy. The things I write about most are mindset and attracting customers. To begin to create your own economy, your mind must be programmed to actively work in harmony with what you desire. I wrote about HBCU's sitting on a small goldmine, not knowing it. I will post it on this site soon. At many HBCUs, marketing and advertising must be emphasized - two, three or four calls per year to alumni members, friends and family are insufficient. Students, parents, and alumni members do not receive marketing calls or communications on a regular basis. They wait months and even years before they are engaged by the university or Alumni Associations. Many HBCU's use third parties for marketing and fundraising. There is little support from the business community as well because there is no sense of urgency to engage them, for example, at Chamber of Commerce level. So businesses give their resources and time to PWUs. HBCUs can create the desire for businesses to want to do business with them. Revolutionary thinking is not required. For many HBCUs, the will, commitment and mindset to raise millions of dollars for long-term sustainability require implementation. I realize that most universities must meet SACS requirements, but this is small compared to what they have at their disposal.
