Posted By: How May I Help You NC on February 07, 2013

The new leader selected to serve as chancellor at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) is expected to be on the agenda when the University of North Carolina Board of Governors meets Friday, Feb. 8, in Chapel Hill. NCCU is planning for a reception for students, faculty, staff and the local community to help welcome NCCU’s 11th chief executive officer.

Friday morning’s anticipated announcement is scheduled to be broadcast live, via Internet video streaming, in B.N. Duke Auditorium. The Board of Governors meeting begins at 10 a.m., and the approximate time for the chancellor announcement should be approximately 11 or 11:30 a.m. B.N. Duke Auditorium will be open to the public at 10 a.m., when the board meeting begins. The announcement also will be broadcast on Channel 30, NCCU’s closed-circuit television station.

The university will host a reception for the chancellor-elect that afternoon at 3:30 p.m., in W.G. Pearson Cafeteria’s Banquet Hall. Dr. Dwight D.

Perry, chair of the NCCU Board of Trustees, will provide introductory remarks and NCCU’s next leader will give comments. Open parking will be observed in the Latham Parking Deck located at 705 East Lawson Street.

A 19-member search committee has been working since August 2012 to help identify a successor for Charlie Nelms, former Chancellor of NCCU who retired in July. Retired Judge Charles L. Becton has been serving as interim chancellor since August. More information on the Chancellor’s Search Committee process is available here.

Media Notes: Media are invited to a news conference at NCCU scheduled from approximately 12:15-12:45 p.m. in the Emma Marable Conference Room in the William Jones Building.

A video news conference with the chancellor-elect will be held via the School of Law’s Telepresence room from approximately 2:45-3:15 p.m. on Feb. 8. News media interested in joining will need to confirm their participation in advance no later than noon on Feb. 7 to mwooten@nccu.edu Instructions will then be provided.
