Posted By: How May I Help You NC on February 11, 2013 Executive Director (FT) Background: The Virginia Gildersleeve International Fund is an international women’s foundation that provides small grants for grassroots projects that empower women and girls in developing countries. VGIF is a volunteer driven organization with a staff of three people. The work of the Virginia Gildersleeve International Fund has been conducted primarily by volunteer committees and the VGIF Board of Directors, but the organization is now seeking to expand its staff to enhance the capacity of the organization to carry out its mission. Job Purpose: The Executive Director will work closely with the VGIF Board in guiding the organization and adhering to and implementing the goals of the strategic plan. The VGIF Executive Director will shepherd the organization through a transition from a largely volunteer-driven organization to the development of a more professionalized staffing structure that will enable the organization to more effectively carry out its mission. Job Responsibilities: Strategy, Vision, Statesmanship • Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve and expand the programs of the organization in accordance with the goals, objectives and policies established by the Board of Directors. • Represent VGIF in the community as the primary staff liaison to potential members, public institutions, international partners and government funders. • Spearhead activities, in conjunction with the Board’s Governance Committee, to expand the capacity of organization’s Board of Directors in the areas of fund-raising, organizational marketing, and management. Fundraising and Development: • Work closely with the Development Manager and Board of Directors to ensure design and implementation of a quality, comprehensive resource development program to maximize on-going funding to support current and long-range plans. • Aggressively participate in resource development activities and engagements. Organizational Management • Coordinate and oversee operations, and management of the organization. • Develop, in conjunction with President of the Board of Directors, Board meeting agendas and related materials, with emphasis on keeping the Board apprised of key issues, and recommending policy changes for Board discussion and action. • Counsel and develop the roles of senior organizational staff to maximize beneficial impact for the organization. • Direct the preparation and implementation of the agency’s annual plan and budget for approval by the Board of Directors. Monitor operations to ensure that they are consistent with the financial plan and with current policies and procedures. • Oversee human resource and administration activities for the organization including, staff hiring, training and development; salary, benefits, and recognition programs, disciplinary and/or dismissal actions. Review and approve personnel recommendations from direct reports. Program Development • Work closely with the Program Manager and Board Committee members to ensure that the programming and related marketing is innovative, appropriate to the changing environment of VGIF stakeholders, fiscally responsible, timely, and held to the highest quality of performance and evaluation.
