Mr. A&T’s Farewell...He's "Mr. HBCU Pageant" Bound!

Posted By: How May I Help You NC on February 22, 2013

On Sunday, February 16, Aggies came out to Harrison Auditorium to show their support, as Mr. A&T prepared to leave for the week long Mr. HBCU pageant.

The pageant, held at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri, is in its 9th year. This is also the 4th year a Mr. A&T has been in the competition.

“I feel good about the competition,” said Reginald Johnson. “I’ve been able to run everything through and I’m very confident and hopefully I can bring back the title.”

Reginald Johnson, professional theater major from New Jersey, was the first Mr. Freshman and also served as Mr. Sophomore before becoming Mr. A&T.

The previous Mr. A&T from the 2011-2012 school year, Jordan Brunson, hosted the event. The farewell started with a monologue where Johnson expressed the importance of HBCU’s and the legacy African Americans must leave.

“I’m looking forward to representing A&T the best I can,” said Johnson.

For the talent portion, Johnson performed a mix of African, ballet and modern dance with influential black males throughout history speaking in the background.

As a part of the question section, Johnson was asked, “How have you best served North Carolina A&T?” His reply, “I believe that I have best served North Carolina A&T by simply being who I am and being accessible to my university through service, being a mentor and role model to young men.”

Mr. Johnson received a standing ovation after the program.

“I think he will do very well,” said Samare Sambou, sophomore sports science major from Raleigh, NC. “I think he has stayed true to his platform and stayed true to himself witch is very important.”

SGA and alumni came to show their support and gave Johnson words of advice after the program.
