BRONX MASS CHIOR MEMBERS CHILDREN MAKE UP CONTEMPORARY GOSPEL GROUP LIVRE' NEW SINGLE "I WIILL BE ALRIGHT"
|
Posted By: LaMarr Blackmon on March 26, 2013 Livre’ was born on a blessed Sunday morning during a praise and worship session at Family Baptist Church. Though they each belonged to different churches it was a family affair style friendship that brought them all into the same house of worship that morning. They are all sons and daughters of preachers that also once sang in the Bronx Mass Choir (now celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2012). Their voices blended so beautifully and naturally that morning after only one rehearsal that it was suggested that they form a group. Working closely with producers David “Swag” Harris and Andre’ Plaskett, all members contributed to the conception of Livre’ – a scintillating blend of modern gospel, techno pop and crossover soul. Richard (alto) is also a primary music producer within Livre’ capable of playing keyboards, drums and a little organ. He is also a choir leader, a worship leader and a young minister. He can be heard singing lead on “Me To You” and “Happiness.” Of the lyrics he contributed to the CD, he is most proud of the tenderly orchestrated “Believe.” “When we started Livre’, we had so many doubtful spirits around us. One day I was so discouraged I stormed into the bathroom, singing and crying at the same time. I thought, ‘Oh, the joy of believing / It can turn a fairy tale into reality.’ I was willing to put my whole life on the line just because there is so much joy in believing. I had already been through so much dysfunction… People don’t realize how much young people go through. I started writing music hoping it would inspire others.” Anjanee (soprano) is a gifted lyricist within the group, showing great versatility with her the techno groove “Dance” and, most galvanizing, the epic album closer “J E S U S (I Am Saved)” which is destined to go down in Livre’ history as their first bona fide classic. “‘J E S U S’ deals with the amazing change that happened to me when I accepted Him into my life,” she shares. And I wrote ‘Dance’at a point in my life when I was having a really hard time… I just prayed for the strength to face my problems so I could dance with joy again.” Malik (tenor) is also a young minister within Livre’. He testified about his calling in the song “Victory.” “I had a hard time accepting my calling at first but I couldn’t help it. I surrendered to the will of God and claimed victory over my feelings of unworthiness to preach God’s word. I had to get over that and remind myself,‘It’s bigger than me.’” Ariel (alto) was proud to just be a church choir girl. Her mind changed when she realized that the right kind of youth group could bring something unique and fresh to the table. “Being in Livre’ is about being able to reach out to people who are not churchgoers or gospel listeners and introducing spirituality to them in a way they can enjoy free from pressure. We recently got to sing on the very firstLeon Lacey ‘Fully Orchestrated’ show at the church The Upper Room. They liked us so much they invited us back to sing backgrounds with Tye Tribbett. The response was wonderful. Being in a room where The Spirit takes over is a glorious experience.” Kenny (tenor) may be the youngest member of the group but he’s the one most intimately familiar with the golden gospel classics of the past. He is prominently featured on the song “Thank You” and is an excellent drummer. Kenny is also choreographer for Livre’. “The dances I come up with are a direct reflection of the joy I have for The Lord. I want to create an excitement in young people when they think about Jesus and what he has done for you.” Cree (soprano) is the dynamo that sings lead on club-ready track “Dance.” Her sound brings a springy pop verve to the aural palette of Livre’. Briana (alto) is the newest member of Livre’ – so new that her voice didn’t make it on the CD. She came from the group Voices of Promise out of Brooklyn. She stepped into Livre’ to replace a member that moved out of state. Briana is a writer and a very strong lead vocalist with jazzy overtones and a range that stretches from bass to soprano.
