MEAC Announces Baseball Weekly Honors

Posted By: Hija Chang on April 16, 2013 Courtesy MEAC Media Relations Delaware State junior Aaron Nardone earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors in baseball, the conference announced on Monday. Glenn Frye of North Carolina Central and Delaware State’s Matt McClain were named Co-Pitcher of the Week, while Delaware State’s Cameron Onderko earned Rookie of the Week accolades. Nardone (OF, 6-1, 200, Jr., Chesapeake, Va.) went 9-for-17 (.529) from the plate, including one home run, four runs scored, seven RBI, and four stolen bases to aid the Hornets to a 4-1 record last week. The junior batted .500 (2-for-4) with a grand slam to lead Delaware State to a 10-8 win over Lehigh. Nardone was perfect 3-for-3 from the plate (1.000) with one run scored and two RBI in a 12-0 victory against Coppin State. McClain (P, 6-1, 185, Jr., Dover, Del.) earned a 0.00 ERA in a 6-0 complete game shutout win against Coppin State. The junior struck out five batters with zero walks for his third shutout of the season. Frye (P, 6-3, 200, Sr., Lillington, N.C.) pitched his second complete game shutout of the season with five strikeouts to aid the Eagles to a 10-0 win over Bethune-Cookman. The senior registered a 0.00 ERA while allowing four hits and walking one in the victory. Onderko (INF, 5-9, 165, Fr., McKeesport, Pa.) hit .526 (10-for-19) from the plate with one double, six runs scored, and two RBI last week for the Hornets. Onderko was a perfect 2-for-2 (1.000) with two runs scored and two RBI in a 6-0 win over Coppin State to help Delaware State sweep the weekend series. Other Top Performances Michael Austin (B-CU) earned a save pitching 3.0 scoreless innings in relief for the Wildcats. Tyler Boone (NCAT) earned a 1.00 ERA in 9.0 innings pitched to aid the Aggies to a 5-1 win over Gardner-Webb. Cameron Day (NSU) hit one home run, one triple, three doubles, seven runs, and four RBI to aid the Spartans to a 2-2 mark last week. Montana Durapau (B-CU) pitched seven innings and struck out eight against North Carolina Central. Spencer Franceschetti (NCCU) batted .500 (1-for-2) with one run scored and one RBI in a 10-0 win over Bethune-Cookman. Chris Horne (NSU) allowed two hits over 9.0 innings pitched to lead the Spartans to a 5-0 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore. Jack May (SSU) gave up seven hits and struck out seven batters in a 5-0 win over Florida A&M. Parker Nix (SSU) went 7-for-16 (.412) with two runs scored, four RBI, and three stolen bases to lead the Tigers to a 3-1 record last week. Anthony Stokes (B-CU) hit two home runs, two runs scored, and three RBI in a 10-2 win over Stetson. Luke Tendler (NCAT) was a perfect 3-for-3 (1.000) with two doubles, one run, and one RBI in a victory over Gardner-Webb. Jeovanny Tolentino (NCAT) batted .357 (5-for-14) with two runs scored, two RBI, and a stolen base to aid the Aggies to a 2-2 mark last week.
