[Position #460] The Thomas Jefferson Foundation, the non-profit that owns and operates Monticello, the historic home and estate of Thomas Jefferson, has a position available at the Papers of Thomas Jefferson: Retirement Series to support letterpress and electronic publication of Jefferson’s letters. 30 hours a week with benefits. Responsibilities are varied and include: tracking down and copying research materials; answering a wide range of research questions; checking stages of editorial output, including galleys and page proofs; checking annotation; participating in textual verification of handwritten manuscripts; and other projects as assigned. Qualifications: Requirements include knowledge of early nineteenth-century American history; ability to read difficult handwritten historical texts accurately; resourcefulness in tracking down and synthesizing information in a wide range of institutions and historical sources; and familiarity with word processing and Internet search tools. Master’s degree in a related field or equivalent research experience preferred.
