Posted By: How May I Help You NC on May 16, 2013 The Dean of the School of Math, Science & Engineering serves as the administrative official responsible for providing strategic organizational leadership in developing and maintaining a strong educational program for all assigned disciplines/programs (Astronomy, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth and Planetary Science, Engineering, Geography, Mathematics, Natural Science, Nutrition, and Physics). The Dean must have a balanced appreciation for science and mathematics courses, as well as respect for other disciplines/programs across the college and a desire to work collaboratively to promote CNM's strategic directions. Duties will be performed consistent with CNM's strategic plan and under the general direction of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The dean is responsible for providing leadership to instructional activities at all CNM campuses as delineated below: Plans, coordinates and provides oversight of college-wide School of Math, Science & Engineering programs and courses. Manage operations and provide oversight to fiscal, physical and personnel resources. Organize, implement and evaluate academic programs to ensure quality, effectiveness and relevancy. Provide leadership to administrative and instructional staff that fosters academic success, accountability and student retention. Foster collaborative working relationships with both internal and external constituencies to communicate, coordinate, and execute strategies that support instructional goals (e.g., articulation agreements). Conduct resource needs analysis, plans, requests and administers school operating and equipment budgets, coordinates and leads the identification of appropriate funding grants and implements grants application and administration processes. Provide leadership in academic long-range planning and employs strategic enrollment management, graduation and retention strategies. Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Communicate effectively in both written and oral formats. Serve as an advocate for the central role of math, science and engineering within the college and for collaboration across CNM.
