Posted By: How May I Help You NC on June 03, 2013 POSITION DESCRIPTION: This is the entry level for field engineers. After initial orientation to the Maintenance Program and maintenance, tests, inspections, and standard reference manuals, the incumbent performs developmental tasks of progressive difficulty involving electrical tests on power system equipment and protective relays and control circuits. Tests are performed and results are recorded and evaluated within the prescribed methods and standard criteria of the Maintenance Program. Limited exercise of judgment is required and results are reviewed for completeness and accuracy. Progressive assignments include troubleshooting of power system equipment and protective relays and control circuits, and the most advanced assignments will include responsibility for modifications of limited scope under the review and supervision of a higher level Engineer or supervisor. Applies diversified knowledge of maintenance and modifications engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Makes decisions under the guidance of a senior engineer on engineering problems and methods, and represents the organization to resolve important questions, plan and coordinate work. Requires the use of conventional engineering techniques, theories, precepts, and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines. Must achieve and maintain training requirements in assigned training programs. May coordinate, provide technical guidance, and review the work of a multi-skilled, multi-discipline project/maintenance group. Supervision Received: Receives supervision and review of test results. Test results review may be performed by a peer, B-level engineer, SE, or supervisor. Supervision is by the Transmission Service Manager or designee. Skills and Proficiencies: Prerequisite: Knowledge of engineering fundamentals. Developmental: Performance of preventive and predictive tests including power factor insulation, bridge, megger, ratio, timing, hi-pot, infrared, ultrasonic, and partial discharge. Ability to develop and follow a written work plan to perform troubleshooting and corrective maintenance as well as routine maintenance activities. Understanding of transmission system clearance procedures necessary to safe maintenance activities and power system security. . Assigned to a Nuclear Plant, must be able to obtain and maintain an unescorted plant access certification. Must be able to obtain and maintain S-3 and S-4 medical ratings with no shift work or overtime restrictions. Must be willing and medically qualified to work rotating shifts and the maximum overtime permitted by TVA procedures during peak demand periods. Understanding of design and inspection standards necessary to competently perform modifications of limited scope. Click this link to view and apply for this job!
