Posted By: How May I Help You NC on June 24, 2013 The Media Technology Specialist is a member of the team responsible for the development, implementation and support of OIT#s centrally managed digital media tools and services supporting the academic mission of Duke University#s faculty, staff and student user communities. The Media Technology Specialist participates in the research, evaluation, design, creation and support of digital media-centric services as required to support business and learning functions at Duke University. The Media Technology Specialist participates in the team#s research into and development of exploratory projects to evaluate internally developed and/or 3rd party hardware and software tools for best fit within OIT#s centrally managed digital media and interactive technology environment. The MediaTechnology Specialist fulfills key project management and customer service roles in collaborative digital media projects and related outreach within the larger institution. The Media Technology Specialist reports to the Senior Manager, Interactive Technology Services in OIT#s Academic Services unit. Specific responsibilities include: # Provide technical leadership and guidence to Duke#s Multimedia Project Studio#s student staff including co-developing training programs with OIT Training and OIT Student Computing & Support staff and collaboration with OIT Student Computing & Support staff in the performance management of MPS student staff # Collaborate with leadership at other Duke computing labs to synchronize hardware and software versions in the MPS Labs where it benefits the greater Duke community # Collaborate with Duke programs such as the Duke Library, the Duke Digital Initiative and the Center for Instructional Technology to be sure the software and hardware in the MPS labs serves a majority of those program (and their constituents) needs. # Provide project management, customer service, outreach and general support for OIT Academic Services# core digital media and interactive services, to include consultation, training and support for end users, local IT staff and other partners as appropriate. # Interact with customers of all levels of technical ability, to explain digital media processes of varying complexity, and to document customer requirements effectively. # Create, update and maintain print, online and multimedia documentation for digital media and interactive technology programs and services. # In accordancewith established practices, gather and synthesize quantitative and qualitative service-related statistics and user feedback; and create related usage reports monthly and per semester. # Research and stay apprised of developments in digital media and interactive technologies related to (but not limited to) web conferencing, video conferencing, video streaming, audio and video capture, editing and processing hardware and media asset management. # Work with customers and departmental/school administrators to understand their business models and goals and to help define strategy, content, and features for design of their digital media systems. # Collaborate with other OIT departments (Shared Services and Infrastructure, Service Desk, etc) when designing, implementing and supporting systems and services. # Perform other duties as required. Qualification & Experience Required # Exceptional passion, knowledge and experience supporting users with desktop video, audio and graphics applications such as Adobe#s Creative Suite and Apple#s media tools and hardware # Strong knowledge and experience leading and managing student employees # Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, with specific strengths in communicating a range of project, functional and technical information to internal partners and external partners and end-users. # Strong work ethic, project management skills and detail-oriented work style, with the ability to self-manage and work proactively and effectively to meet established deadlines and project goals. # Ability to be an effective team member and individual contributor in a fast-paced, multi- project and multi-unit environment. # Strong understanding of the Macintosh OSX operating system with respect to digital media and interactive technology applications and services. # Demonstrated project management experience leading internal or external (vendor or subcontractor) development resources for the implementation of enterprise level media systems # Working knowledge from the functional and content producer perspectives for web- based media repositories such as YouTube. # Some knowledge of transcoding and compression in the context of streaming media, including one or more of the following technologies: H.264, MPEG variants, Flash, QuickTime, Real and Windows Media, Wowza, FFMPEG. # Minimum of three years higher education technology support or training experience with multimedia tools. Preferred # Knowledge of workstation management and software deployment deployment tools # Knowledge of distributed media storage systems and management # Knowledge of media recording and/or distribution systems in a higher education environment # Knowledge of media creation and management for a digital signage system Education Bachelors degree (Media technology or related field preferred), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
