Posted By: How May I Help You NC on July 03, 2013 George School, a Quaker boarding/day grades 9-12 college preparatory school located in Newtown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, has an opening in the Student Health Center for a Charge Nurse. JOB SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of the Student Health Center (SHC) Charge Nurse is to provide oversight and management of medical practices to ensure that the SHC meets the optimum standards of care and safety. Under the direction of the SHC Administrator, the Charge Nurse assists in hiring and training all full- and part-time nurses; provides professional nursing care to George School students; acts as a liaison to the consulting Nurse Practitioner and the Physician. In consultation with the SHC Administrator; s/he administers all policies, procedures, and clinical protocols for the Student Health Center. In addition, the Charge Nurse works collaboratively with the Deans’ Office on community-wide health education, medical and emergency planning issues. In consultation with the Physician and Nurse Practitioner, assists in creating and implementing new policies and protocols; collecting and maintaining up-to-date health forms and student information; and assisting registration as it relates to health services. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Renders routine professional nursing care to George School students, including: • Triaging students as they present themselves to the Student Health Center for medical attention. Administering prescribed medication to students. • Maintaining up-to-date medical charts, recording condition and treatment, including administration of medications, for all students who present themselves to the Student Health Center. Scheduling student appointments with the Nurse Practitioner or Physician for follow up care. • Being available to students, parents, dorm teachers, and faculty advisors to answer questions and assist them in solving problems related to medical issues. Communicating concerns regarding student emotional health to the School Counselor. Documenting all pertinent medical information such as immunizations, insurance changes, and in-patient stays on student records. JOB SPECIFICATIONS: • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required; prior successful supervisory experience preferred. • Five years’ experience working with a diverse adolescent population, preferably in an independent boarding or day school setting. • Demonstrate knowledge in such areas as drug and alcohol prevention, psychopharmacology, preventative health care, emergency medical procedures, ethics and decision making. • Ability and willingness to work on an as-needed basis in order to meet the operational needs of the School. • Ability to traverse the campus to reach students in emergencies. • Ability to climb stairs and lift up to 50 pounds.
