Posted By: How May I Help You NC on July 09, 2013 Eastern Washington University invites applications for a Africana Studies Coordinator for its Africana Education Program. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Masters degree in an area that matches one of the following: Ability to work independently and as a member of a team; 8. Ability to take direction and possess the ability to work independently under general supervision to meet the needs of program; 9. Ability to collect data and produce reports based on data; 10. Capacity to effectively address diverse constituencies; 11. Knowledge of high school to college and college to graduate school transition 12. Ability to generate ideas for new and modified first-year transition and retention programs for upperclassmen. 13. Advanced computer skills to include Microsoft Office, Apple and other applications and technologies necessary for data access/retrieval and communications; Specific experience with Excel spreadsheets and developing databases. 14. Ability to develop workshops for faculty and staff to develop cultural understanding of African American students and their experiences. 15. Ability to collaborate with instructional faculty and staff in all subjects and skills to make learning more effective for African American and other students of African descent by incorporating African American relevant content and pedagogy and performance styles of diverse students into the general education curriculum 16. Ability to develop, plan and teach College Success & First year Courses; 17. Ability to work with campus service units to disseminate information and encourage dialogue to improve cultural awareness; 18. Ability to work with and engage a wide range of understanding and skill level of campus faculty, staff, and administrators in working with African American students and their families; 19. Demonstrated understanding of African American culture, and the ability to work with culturally and economically diverse populations, including first generation students. 20. Additionally, candidates must offer a demonstrated high degree of interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency or diversity. Preferred Qualifications: 1.
