Alabama State University's College of Business Administration (COBA) has recently had its accreditation reaffirmed by the the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) at its annual conference in Salt Lake City. ASU and 23 other association member institutions were awarded reaffirmation of accreditation for their business schools or programs, which represents the 23rd annual presentation to institutions being accredited since the founding of ACBSP 25 years ago. The dean of Alabama State University's COBA, Dr. Le-Quita Booth, said that the University is pleased that its business college has been recognized. "ASU may say that its business college is on the same level of expertise as many of the finest schools in both Alabama and the nation," Booth said. "With the University achieving accreditation for its business school and programs, this attainment certifies that the teaching and learning processes within it meet the rigorous educational standards established by the ACBSP." She added that the ratification of accreditation by ACBSP for Alabama State University covers a 10 year period at which time an institution must reaffirm its quality by preparing a self-study and having another site visit. During the accreditation period, business programs are required to maintain the high quality standards of ACBSP. Douglas G. Viehland, executive director of ACBSP, spoke of the accomplishment of ASU and its member institutions, and said that the school's commitment to excellence plays a large role in the reaffirmation of its accreditation. "These institutions have shown their commitment to teaching excellence by their participation in the accreditation process and their achievement of accreditation," Viehland said. "ACBSP is proud to assist these schools and programs in their commitment to quality business programs and we recognize their educational practices that contribute to the continuous improvement of business education."
