Posted By: How May I Help You NC on July 17, 2013 The Department of Visual and Environmental Studies (VES) seeks to appoint an accomplished and dynamic individual as the John R. and Barbara Robinson Family Director of the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, the only Le Corbusier designed structure built in North America. This position continuously engages in long range planning for the Carpenter Center. The successful applicant manages the artistic goals and vision of the Center and balances these needs with curricular demands on the building, including visiting faculty and senior thesis exhibitions. The successful candidate will curate up to 6 exhibitions per year in the Sert Gallery and Main Lobby space. The Director will work with faculty and staff on cultural programming in service to the arts curriculum, including but not limited to lecture series, workshops and artists’ talks. It is anticipated that the Director will hold a concurrent teaching appointment and will actively participate in teaching departmental courses. He/she will foster collaborative relationships within Harvard as well as the larger arts community. This position will collaborate with other Harvard Museums as well as academic departments. This Director implements policy based on understanding and recognition of legal issues involving copyright as well as ownership. This position will make decisions concerning conservation and loans of art objects currently residing in the Carpenter Center. Works with staff to develop policy and oversight for Facilities Reports when borrowing from other institutions. The Director reports to the Chair of the Department of Visual and Environmental Studies. This position supervises two staff members: The Exhibition Manager and the Program Manager. The Director is expected to cultivate donors and to work closely with Institutional Advancement to secure future funding. This position also conducts outreach to individuals, foundations, corporations, and governmental agencies in order to secure funds for exhibitions, cultural programs, and publications in alignment with departmental priorities. This includes but is not limited to working with Research Administrative Services and Offices of Sponsored Research. Click this link to view and apply for this job!
