16 HBCUs make the list of top colleges and universities in the U.S.
Posted By: Reggie Culpepper on July 29, 2013 Forbes published their list of the top 650 colleges and universities in the U.S. and we have a handful of historically black colleges and universities that made the list. For this list, Forbes looked at factors that directly concern today’s incoming students (and their families) who will be footing a bill: Will my classes be interesting? Is it likely I will graduate in four years? Will I incur a ton of debt getting my degree? And once I get out of school, will I get a good job and be a leader in my chosen profession? Fisk University was the highest rated HBCU at number 188. They are ahead of juggernauts such as the University of South Carolina, the University of Oregon, Florida State University, the University of Arizona, and the University of Alabama. Spelman College clocked in at number 254, ahead of big weights such as the University of Kentucky, Mississippi State University, and the University of Tennessee, Spelman College is followed by Morehouse College, Howard University, and North Carolina A&T State University, who round out the top 5 HBCUs on the list. The biggest mover-shaker was Morehouse College, the only all-male historically black college in the U.S., who jumped 235 spots to No. 285. 188. Fisk University 254. Spelman College 285. Morehouse College 342. Howard University 497. North Carolina A&T State University 532. Tuskegee University 549. Jackson State University 597. Florida A&M University 615.
