NCA&T gets stamp of approval for new PH.D program in Computer Science

Posted By: How May I Help You NC on August 14, 2013 The University of North Carolina (UNC) Board of Governors announced, Friday, August 9, the approval to establish a Ph.D. program in computer science at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. “We are extremely excited and eager to begin the work of establishing this new program,” said Dr. Beryl McEwen, N.C. A&T’s vice provost for strategic planning and institutional effectiveness at N.C. A&T. "The doctoral program is consistent with the North Carolina A&T’s Preeminence 2020 strategic plan that aims to enhance graduate education and research." More NCA&T News: http://www.ncat.edu/ “The new Ph.D. program will further strengthen the graduate programs at N.C. A&T by attracting highly qualified students for advanced study and research in information security, distributed systems and artificial intelligence,” said Dr. Sanjiv Sarin, vice provost for research, graduate programs and extended learning, and dean of the graduate school. "The computer science department has been very active in extramural research funding, having secured $14 million over the last three years that has led to the establishment of nationally recognized centers, such as the Center for Advanced Studies in Identity Sciences, with funding from the ARMY Research Labs and the Center for Cyber Defense, which is funded by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security. The university expects to admit students into the program in the spring of 2014.
