Eight Southwestern Athletic Conference preseason selections were voted to the 2013 Boxtorow Preseason All-America Team.

The announcement was made by the HBCU media outlet with voters comprised of writers and media members who cover Black College Football.

The SWAC players listed on this year's Boxtorow preseason team include: Isaiah Crowell (Alabama State), Ben Anderson (Arkansas-Pine Bluff), Lee Doss (Southern), LaDarius Eckwood (Arkansas-Pine Bluff), Kenny Eagle (Arkansas-Pine Bluff), Qua Cox (Jackson State) Robert Simpson (Mississippi Valley State) and Bobby Wenzig (Alabama State).

Tennessee State led the way with five selections, while Bethune-Cookman had four and Arkansas-Pine Bluff landed three.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff quarterback, Ben Anderson, was selected after being named the 2013 SWAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. He received first team All-SWAC accolades in 2012 after leading the Golden Lions to the SWAC championship and a No.1 ranking in the final Boxtorow coaches poll.

Anderson was second in the SWAC in passing yards (2,346), completing 58 percent of his passes with 16 touchdowns. He also rushed for 519 yards and five touchdowns.

Crowell was one of the overwhelming favorite in the backfield. He was named SWAC Newcomer of the Year after finishing third in the conference in rushing (842) while leading the league in rushing touchdowns (15). He capped the year averaging 5.3 yards per carry.

The offensive line on the Boxtorow preseason squad is averaging 6’5, 312 pounds. The line includes UAPB's Eagle who helped the Golden Lions to their first-outright SWAC Championship crown since sharing the title in 1966. UAPB captured the HSRN Conway Cup and the network's National Championship title. The Golden Lions were also named Black College National Champions by the American Sports Wire and were voted by the coaches poll as the BoxtoRow National Champions. .

The wide receivers include two of the top players at the position in the SWAC. Eckwood recorded 52 receptions for 787 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 15.1 yards per reception. Doss caught 65 passes for 696 yards and eight touchdowns in 2012.

Defensively, Simpson received the most votes and was one of two SWAC defenders to make the team. He helped the Delta Devils to the fourth best total defense in the nation.



He was second in the country in tackles for loss (29) totaling 121 yards which led the nation. He also recorded nine sacks, the third most in the SWAC.

Cox, a 2012 Boxtorow All-American, led the SWAC in interceptions (5) and had eight pass breakups.

Wenzig was one of two specialist on this year;s preseason team to garner 2012 Boxtorow All-Americans. He topped the SWAC ranks and was fourth in the nation in punting average (45.6). He had 20 punts of 50 or more yards and 24 downed inside the 20.

This is the seventh year of the Boxtorow preseason All-America team.
