Texas Southern to Honor Outstanding Alumni and Former Students

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on September 24, 2013 Texas Southern to Honor Outstanding Alumni & Former Students, Community Leaders and Corporate Partners at this year’s President’s Gala Texas Southern University will present awards to outstanding alumni and former students, community leaders and corporate and philanthropic partners at this year’s President’s Gala to be held during Homecoming 2013. The annual event is scheduled for Friday, October 18th at the Westin Galleria Hotel with a 6 p.m. reception and 7 p.m., dinner and awards presentation. Entertainment will be provided by the Ernest Walker Band featuring Howard Hewitt and Regina Belle. Alumni Honorees include: Dale Long, a College of Science and Technology Graduate, who has recognized nationally for his work with Big Brothers and Big Sisters; Alice Mendoza, a College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences graduate who serves on the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, Winfred Frazier, a Jesse H. Jones School of Business major and vice president at KTRK-TV, Channel 13; Ricky Anderson, a Thurgood Marshall School of Law graduate, an attorney and Houston businessman; Perry Miller, from the College of Science and Technology, who serves as general manager, Houston Airport System, William P. Hobby Airport; and Gerald Womack, from the College of Business, who serves as president of the Houston Black Realtors Association. Community Partners and the awards to be presented are: The Foundation award will be presented to the Houston Endowment, Community Leaders award will be presented to Rev. Bill and Audrey Lawson, the Legacy Partner award goes to the Port Authority of Houston, TSU’s Media Trendsetter award will go to Keith Davis of D-Mars, and the Corporate award recipient is CenterPoint Energy-David McClanahan. The university will also acknowledge Gala Hosts for their continued support of Texas Southern University. This year’s gala hosts for the President’s Gala are; Dr. John and Docia Rudley, Anthony Chase and Dr. Dina Alsowaye, Jodie and Sonceria Jiles, Walter and Leona Provost, Marty and Sue Wickliff.
