The event theme is “Gamma Kappa Chapter Celebrates 65 Sensational Years of Sisterhood and Service Through Timeless Leadership.” Initiated sorority members will reconnect with others as well as attend several activities taking place Thursday, October 31 through Sunday, November 3, 2013. Event highlights include: an Anniversary Gala, Health Initiative, Community Service Project, and a Capital Cam-paign to benefit Tuskegee University students who exemplify achievement and leadership. Gamma Kappa Chapter was chartered on the campus of Tuskegee University (Tuskegee, Alabama) on Thursday, April 15, 1948, by 30 visionary Charter Members - Johnnie Blye, Elaine Bradford, Lorraine Brown, Vivian Brown, Doris Cole, Dorothy Dailey, Cleo Daniels, Queen E. Dorn, Georgina Evans, Ophelia Garrett Hill, Willie Geeter, Bessie Hayes, Mary Henry, Lois Holliday, Johnnie Jordon, Tommie Jordon, Rosie Lee Lockett, Annie Lyas, Brunetta Montgomery, Carmen Morrow, Phyllis Peters, Eva Pitts, Buena Powell, Hazel Scruggs, Edith Schockley, Ethel Thomas, Agnita Turner, Grace Watson, Pauline Weatherby, and Francis Williams. Since 1948, Gamma Kappa’s members have continued to excel scholastically, while contributing immeasurable hours of community service. The monies will be used to purchase much needed books to aid the learning of more than 500 students who attend the school. The book donation drive will culminate on November 1, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with a celebration of learning which will include a formal presentation to school administrators and the students who will benefit from this effort.
