Eagle Rock Job Opportunity: Residential Life Coordinator
|
Posted By: How May I Help You NC on October 11, 2013 Do you believe that relationships can be at the core of a successful school? Do you want to work in a setting where mistakes become the grist for growth and development rather than something to respond to with punishment or enabling behavior? Do you think the power of support groups can be transformative to a young person seeking to understand their identity, sorting through addiction issues, or struggling to understand trauma & loss? Are you looking for a school that honors student strengths and seeks to build on those in order to overcome life’s difficulties? Are you energized by the challenge of creating a co-curricular approach that balances structure & freedom inside of which students can learn from their experiences? If you’re excited by these questions then read on. Eagle Rock seeks an experienced residential life coordinator to support the development of a co-curricular, inclusive, restorative community. This is a new position in which the RL Coordinator will work to enhance the efficacy of our residential experience. Our school is framed by Eagle Rock values, contained in the phrase 8+5=10. In particular residential life is informed by our values of “living in respectful harmony with people of all races, cultures, religions, genders and sexual identities, some of whom will have disabilities or different learning styles” and “devising an enduring moral and ethical code.” Much of the residential program is organized around our six student houses and the accompanying house parents and house staff teams. If you’re interested in working with a team to lead efforts that supports the houses, cultivates student leadership, increases our culture of inclusion, builds group support, organizes meaningful & engaging out of class experiences, and helps integrate and sustain restorative practices in our community then Eagle Rock might be the place for you. We’ll be honest though; Eagle Rock isn’t for everybody. If you believe students need to be “taught lessons,” you think a residential program should be built around behavior modification, or that young people need a clear zero tolerance policy to guide them, this school is not for you. If you are looking for a job rather than a lifestyle, you won’t fit here. But if you answered affirmatively to the questions above, you’ve got boundless energy, a deep desire to work on both systematic school wide initiatives and with individual students, and you have ambitions to impact secondary education nationally you need to apply! If you haven’t had a chance yet, check out our website (www.eaglerockschool.org) to get a better feel for the School and Professional Development Center. Interested applicants should submit a brief cover letter, a resume, a brief skills self-assessment that indicates results produced in each of the four major areas of responsibility listed below, and 3 professional references (phone number and email address) to info@eaglerockschool.org. Clarifying questions can be sent to psmith@eaglerockschool.org or jliddle@eaglerockschool.org. No phone calls please. We ONLY accept electronic submissions. NO paper or fax materials will be considered. Eagle Rock does not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or disability. Eagle Rock proactively seeks a diverse workplace and therefore members of racial/ethnic minorities and other protected classes are encouraged to apply. Hiring Timeline We are committed to finding the right person. This timeline is offered to give applicants a sense of our ideal process. We intend to do as much as we possibly can to stick to this plan. However, we do realize that there might be a circumstance with the best candidate that would require us to shift our plan. We hope the right person is not dissuaded from applying by incongruence between her/his commitments and our timeline. Application Deadline: Aug 30, 2013 Phone Interviews: Sep 9 – 13, 2013 Three-Day Onsite Interviews: Oct 7-25, 2013 Start Date: Jan 6, 2014 Click this link to view and apply for this job!
