Help Ay'sha Get Back to Spelman

Greetings,
My name is Ay’sha Williams. I am a sophomore at Spelman College as a Biochemistry major. Currently, I am in an overbearing financial crisis. I am on a leave of absence as a result of lack of funds for my education. This past year has been tough on me and my family. Times have been extremely hard for families of a low income; nevertheless, I have continued to try to overcome my hardships. However, I feel as if I am at a standstill in my quest to achievement. This is the reason why I am reaching out for your assistance.
Due to today’s economy, my educational funds are insufficient. I have a balance of $11,319.50 from my freshman year. Since I have this overwhelming balance on my student account, I will not be able to enroll into school until this balance this balance is paid. In addition to my previous balance, my Federal aid, which includes Federal Direct Stafford Loan, Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan and the Federal Pell Grant, does not cover all of my college expenses. The Federal aid that I received totals to $15, 145.00. This leaves me to come up with $40,243.50.

Spelman’s Cost of Attendance $44,069.00
Federal Aid − $15,145.00
Account Balance + $11,319.50
$40,243.50
I do not have $40, 243.50. I have applied to scholarships, jobs, and I have searched for a co-signer for student loans. My mother, who is a single parent of four, can not to pay for me and my sister’s college expenses. This situation has led me to considering transferring to a less expensive school or joining the military. I do not want to give up on Spelman due to unaffordability. I have goals to succeed, give back to my community, and represent the underrepresented Black race. In order to accomplish the aforementioned, a college degree and the skills obtained during undergraduate years is essential. Like the United Negro College Fund’s motto states, I believe that “a mind is a terrible thing to waste”. I will not let my economic status define my success in this world. Regardless of my financial situation, I will be all that I am destined to be. So I ask that you may find it in your heart to assist a young Black woman filled with ambition and a hunger for success in her educational pursuits. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Ay’sha Williams
