Oberlin College Is Hiring For Their Major Gifts Officer Position!

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on November 07, 2013 Oberlin College and its Development and Alumni Affairs Division seeks a career-oriented Major Gifts Officer to be an integral part of their team. This is a full-time, 12-month, Administrative and Professional Staff position reporting to the Director of Major Gifts. This is a wonderful and exciting opportunity to join a fast paced, enthusiastic environment within the Development and Alumni Affairs Office at Oberlin College, one of the premier liberal arts institutions of higher education in the United States situated just outside of Cleveland, OH. Oberlin College is currently in the third year of its “Oberlin Illuminate” campaign, which seeks to raise $250 million in support of 6 priorities set forth by the College and is currently on pace to surpass its goal one year early, having raised approximately $190 million to date. Responsibilities: The Major Gifts Officer acts as a donor relationship manager who plans and implements strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of outright and deferred gifts of $50,000 or more. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Maintain and develop a robust portfolio of 150 major gift prospects ($50,000+ gift capacity); make 150 personal visits per year. Prepare effective cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans for prospects sometimes involving other colleagues within Development as well as faculty, deans, senior administrators and volunteers; cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni and friends capable of contributing outright or deferred major gifts. Carry out certain administrative functions within the department, as assigned by the Director. Maintain a robust and active pipeline of major gift proposals, including some principal level donors ($1 million +). Recruit and collaborate with key fundraising volunteers. Develop funding proposals and negotiate and structure complex gifts to the College. Synthesize complex information, think strategically and respond to situations as they arise, and thrive in a fast-paced, busy working environment. Complete at least two distinct stewardship actions for each prospect whose lifetime philanthropy to Oberlin College is $100K or more. Participate in special events (reunions, commencement, donor cultivation, etc) both on and off campus. Compensation: Within the range established for this position, salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes an excellent benefit package.
