Work in this position involves participation in planning and implementing large scale technical projects including enterprise applications, shared services, and staged upgrades of backend Windows servers. In addition this position has a role in maintaining and securing OIT#s overall Windows server infrastructure that supports services such as Exchange, SAP, PeopleSoft, SharePoint, and SCCM. DUTIES & WORK PERFORMED: # Perform OS upgrades and maintenance, patching, and problem resolution for OIT supported Windows Servers. # Provide Tier 4 Windows technical support including incident resolution and rotational on call responsibilities. # Prepare documentation pertaining to the systems supported by OIT and organize and present this information in a clear, concise, user-friendly format to the appropriate audience. # Assist in exploration of new technologies, documenting decisions and integration of new technologies into current environment. # Interact with vendor representatives to resolve software and hardware problems and to keep abreast of emerging technologies. # Design, deploy and maintain install scripts and tools that allow for fully automated installs, on demand provisioning and maintenance of Windows servers. # Participate in development of long range planning for new projects and facilities; serve in an advisory capacity to university officials as required. # Maintain liaison with representatives of other University IT departments and organizations to insure effective communication of needs across any organizational boundaries. SOFT SKILLS: # Ability to work in a team in a demanding, fast-paced environment. # Highly self-motivation with the ability to drive projects to completion. # Ability to handle multiple concurrent activities and have a flexible, positive attitude. # Demonstrated ability to track, organize and prioritize workload. # Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. # Must have good planning and organizational skills, strong verbal and written communication skills. # Ability to provide support in a mission critical, 24x7 system environment. # Ability to work independently and as a team member SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None EDUCATION/SKILLS: Bachelor#s degree in Math or computer Science or equivalent experience and course work; and three years of system administration experience. Specific skills sought include experience with Windows Server (2003-2012R2), AD, and Powershell. General knowledge of VMWare, Exchange, Sharepoint, SCCM, SCOM, and Altiris are desired. Ability to work independently and as a team member, managing multiple assignments in a well-organized manner is important. This position requires significant interface with other technical staff and significant communication with technical and non-technical staff outside of OIT-SSI-Systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. This position requires an individual with expertise in web application development and production support for both desktop and mobile with particular skills in JavaScript and HTML. The staff member must demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment and communicate with others effectively. DUTIES & WORK PERFORMED: # Document all work efforts in relation to customer requests, change requests, maintenance activities, and others as identified # Collaborate with other staff and customers # Research, design and develop solutions for business needs driven by process reengineering, issues and problems # Perform operational duties such as troubleshooting and performance analysis # Implement data and application models # Participate in educational and higher education initiatives SOFT SKILLS: # Time management and organization # Excellent communication: Verbal and written, technical and non-technical # Written analysis and evaluation # Teamwork # Self-motivated and goal-oriented # Excellent interpersonal and interview skills # Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies # Independent worker, yet able to take direction from management and provide regular status SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: # None QUALIFICATIONS: Proven ability to support web and mobile applications and/or other third-party systems and tools. EDUCATION: Preferred: BA or BS (Computer Science, Engineering or related field) or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Required: Equivalent work experience. EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: Required: Software Developer: # Requirements analysis, technical specification and design # Proven problem solving # Software and system change and release management # Problem tracking/resolution # Agile software practices # Understanding of web application request and response lifecycle # Expertise in web markup and styling languages (HTML, CSS, XML) # Experience developing for mobile devices using web technologies (HTML5, CSS3) # Understanding of JavaScript programming language (particularly with JavaScript libraries/frameworks like Backbone.js or Ember.js) # Understanding of object-oriented design and programming # Experience with automated testing methodologies including Unit/Integration/Acceptance/Performance testing (Apache JMeter) # Experience with version management and source control systems # (git and svn) # Understanding of relational databases # Experience developing applications for UNIX(Linux) environments Technical Leadership: # Identify and recommend system efficiencies # Evaluate and apply product features to optimize business processes Preferred: # Familiar with Structured Query Language (SQL) # Familiar with technologies like WebSockets, AJAX and Comet/long polling # Familiar with iOS/Android development and understanding of submission to the App Store and Google Play # Experience with the Ruby programming language and Ruby on Rails framework # Experience with native mobile applications # Understanding of software development lifecycle # Web user interface design and implementation WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment.
