Posted By: How May I Help You NC on November 26, 2013 The Department of African American Studies at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign seeks a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of assistant professor with a target start date of August 16, 2014. We are seeking a scholar with a specialization in health and wellness among Black populations. The area of specialty is broadly defined and includes mental, physical, community, and/or social health in a national or transnational framework. Scholars with broad interdisciplinary backgrounds and interests should apply, and we are particularly interested in scholars whose research is grounded in the discipline of Black Studies and who apply social science or humanities methods to areas such as health disparities, health economics, intersections between health and social policy, variances in health and healing practices as related to culture, comparative healthcare delivery systems, and children and adolescent health. Candidates must have their Ph.D. prior to the start date and they should have developed plans for a program of significant research with potential to attract external funding. Candidates also should be committed to both undergraduate and graduate teaching in African American Studies. The successful candidate will be encouraged and supported in developing collaborations with colleagues across the campus who are pursuing related teaching, research, and public engagement activities.
